Morven House
Some briefs ask for something entirely new. This one asked for something rarer — a home that feels as though it has always been here. Modern in its bones, classical in its bearing, and oriented precisely toward one of Marlborough's most quietly spectacular views.
Mark Hawkins brought a designer's eye and a builder's instincts to the brief. Having spent fifteen years on the tools before turning to architecture, he understands what it takes to build an idea — not just draw one. The design that emerged for Morven House has the kind of considered restraint that takes real confidence to commit to. No gesture for its own sake. Every proportion deliberate.
The Wairau Valley stretches out below. The home is positioned to hold that view without chasing it — windows placed where they earn the outlook, not wherever the wall allowed. Inside, the spaces move with a natural sequence: formal where formality belongs, easy where it doesn't.
This is a home built to age well. The kind that feels more itself in twenty years than on the day the keys were handed over.
